My Goal
To share as much of my knowledge, experience, and love of music as possible with every
student, with an eye to guiding each one toward becoming his or her own teacher
in a lifelong pursuit of musical activity of any form or in any style.
A Little About Me
I am a twenty-plus (closer to thirty-plus,
depending on how one counts it) year veteran professional
performer and private instructor of music. I have extensive experience in a
variety of musical settings and styles, both solo and group: classical, jazz,
commercial (including pop/rock, R & B, blues, and others), and on all the
instruments I teach.
Having earned my Master of Music degree from the
prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, I was
also elected to the Pi Kappa Lambda Society, an honorary organization
recognizing outstanding achievement in music, in 1981.
Copies of my professional resume and letters of
reference are available upon request, and will soon be available on this site,
once web-publication permissions are granted for the references.

About My Approach
As a professional musician and instructor, I’ve
observed the best instrumental performers do more in their studies than simply
study technique. They also study theory and apply it in their playing,
regardless of style. If you believe that these areas are integral parts of a
comprehensive path to musical mastery of your instrument, consider studying
music theory/improvisation/instrumental technique with me, exploring the
following in both
age-appropriate terms and depth:
ü Technique
and practices leading to greater command of your instrument, using tried and
true, respected methods.
ü Music
theory--scales and the harmony derived from them--the building blocks of
composed
or
improvised music.
ü Chord-scale
theory--integrating scales and harmony to clearly understand the keys/scales
implied by any given set of chord changes.
ü Applying
chord-scale theory either on your instrument or in composition, using recorded solos or compositions as working
models.
Theory work will often require use of the 6’ 6”
Yamaha grand piano in the studio to illustrate concepts more visually.
